Olubunmi Abodunde, a Nigerian man living in the United Kingdom, fatally assaulted his wife, Taiwo, using their son’s skateboard, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

The couple, who immigrated from Nigeria in 2022 and had three children, frequently argued over alleged infidelities and financial matters.

Abodunde, aged 48, had a history of domestic violence and was facing trial for murder. However, he changed his plea to guilty after the trial had commenced.

Despite bail conditions prohibiting him from entering their home following a prior violent incident, Abodunde breached these conditions and entered the house, where the fatal assault occurred.

Upon entering the house, police found Taiwo, aged 41, with severe head injuries, leading to her death.

Abodunde faces a likely sentence of life imprisonment, as declared by Judge Martyn Levett at Ipswich Crown Court.

The Suffolk Constabulary has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for investigation due to potential misconduct by three officers involved in the case.

Abodunde had a history of jealousy and had accused his wife of infidelity. Prior to Taiwo’s death, he had been arrested for domestic violence incidents.

During the fatal assault, Taiwo sustained severe injuries, including fractured ribs, and was later found dead near the front door of their home.

Post-mortem examination results indicated that Taiwo had been strangled and beaten, with a skateboard used as a weapon.

Abodunde claimed self-defense, alleging that Taiwo had attacked him with a knife previously. However, no knife was found near her body.

Following his arrest, Abodunde was hospitalized for a mental health evaluation.

Detective Inspector Dan Connick expressed condolences to Taiwo’s family and emphasized the impact of the incident on the community.

Taiwo worked as a care home assistant in Cambridge, and her death deeply affected her colleagues and the community.
